Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking a medication named "Myfortic"or Mycophenolic 180mg since my kidney transplant in 2011, what are the true functions of this medication ? (2) is there a generic tablet which maybe at a lower cost ? and also the posibles side effects. UNFORTUNATELY I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL CONDITIONS BUT I'LL KEEP THIS WEBSITE FOR FUTURE REFERENCES
Mycophenolic is an immunosuppressant and prescribed to prevent rejection of organ transplant. Mycophenolate Mofetil(MMF)is the generic name. It may be available as generic name (depending on the country you are in). GI side effects are common e.g diarrhoea, nausea & vomiting etc.Mostly the drug is well-tolerated and has wider use for other immune-mediated diseases.Periodic complete blood count is needed while on this drug. You need to report to your treating doctor ,if you experience any untoward symptoms, though you will be under regular follow-up by your doctor post-transplant.
