What Is The Healing Period Of A Fractured Collar Bone In A 16 Year Old?
My 16 year old son broke his collarbone 6 weeks ago. He was very careful the first 2 weeks and it seems to be healing fine. Last X-ray at 4 weeks showed that it was pretty much healed and he got the okay for light work. He is a swimmer and wants to return to his swim season. However, the doctor said he should wait four more weeks. Is that right? He has no pain and hasn t for 4 weeks..
Hi, thanks for asking the question. If your bone is healed completely you can go for swimming .As your X- ray shows not complete healing you have to wait for some time other wise the bones will not properly fuse. If a patient comes to my clinic i would have advised to wait until 12 weeks for swimming that to after confirming complete union of collar bone fracture.
