What Is The Life Expectancy In An Extensive Liver Damaged Patient?
My sister is 65 years old, she has extensive liver damage and is currently hospitalized. Her ascetes must be drained at least every 2 weeks and she has zero appetite. She normally should weigh approximately 120-130 lbs., but currently she weighs about 80 Lbs. Her speech is slurred, her memory is failing and she sometimes searches for basic words. She has become incontinent and can barely stand. Is there any hope???? Very sadly yours.
I am sure this must be very difficult for your sister, you and the rest of your family.
Based on what you have mentioned, her liver is failing badly and it is unlikely that this can be reversed or cured. The abnormal electrolytes and other levels of chemicals would contribute to her changes in mental status.
With her liver failing, a transplant may be the best option.
I hope this helps
