What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Patient With 15% Of Heart Function?

My ex husband had an echo that measured his ef at 15%, he has had a heart attack, possibly two. He is 48 years old. He does not take care of himself, diet horrible, rarely goes to doctor/hospital. He was told he needed stents, pacemaker, and a life vest, all he has refused. He was put on two medications via patch to be changed weekly and he is willing to take children s aspirin. How long should we expect him to live without taking these life saving measures offered to him. And oh he walked out of the hospital ama, he was admitted when he went to ER with ankles swollen the size of grapefruit a and in so much pain he could barely walk so I was told.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per your narration, your husband is having advanced heart failure likely involving right and left-sided heart most probably.

Though life expectancy depends upon multiple factors I can quote that he has much lower predictable outcome so far as better quality of life is concerned.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
