What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Person With 15% Heart Functioning?

Hi, I am a nurse working in LTC, and one of my residents is a 45y/0 Indian man. I just learned today from him that his heart is only functioning on 15%. I feel really bad for him, he s basically the same age as me. What are his chances for long term survival???

It is always hard to predict since it depends on other factors such as general contition, lung function and kidneys function. However, 15% of EF is very low and if there is no option for heart transplant or surgical improvement then the prognosis is not good but may reach 2-3 years if he follows doctors recommendations. Long term survival is possible through heart transpant or mechanic heart pump.
