What Is The Life Expectancy Of An Elderly Lady With Extreme Fluctuations In BP?

My Mom is 96 and in a personal care home. Just recently she had extremely low blood pressure so they took her off her no medications. Now her blood pressure went to 225/95. So she is back on her no meds but they are having a difficult time lowering it. The last reading was 195/80. They have indicated she is nearing the end of life. Any idea how long we have with her? A month, a week?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Fluctuating blood pressure at this age indicates a poor prognosis. However, we can not predict the life expectancy and the care and prognosis will be better if she is admitted in a tertiary care hospital.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
