What Is The Life Expectancy Of Someone With 20% Lung Function?
Hi, my loved one is a fifty five year old male with congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, copd, and a diabetic who is on insulin. He recently suffered from pneumonia. He was also told by his physician that his heart is functioning at twenty percent. What is his life expectancy?
As 20% of the lungs are functional means we can still expect for a good recovery but it will be slow. The recovery will be totally depended upon the physical parameters. The patient might be helped with the oxygen supply and nebulizer if he has cold and cough symptoms. We need to wait and watch the patient. Doing breathing exercises even though the patient is on an oxygen supply will be helpful. Usually, CPAP or BiPAP is good in such cases and for this, the hospital will definitely take a good decision to consider one.
Wait for the symptoms to subside and keep monitoring the heart rate, ECG, Blood pressure, SpO2 levels etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
