What Is The Life Expectancy When Diagnosed With 15% Heart Functionality And CHF?

My dad, just got a call from his family doctor, they told him his heart is at 15% functionality from his diagnosed congestive heart failure. I am his son, and I am in charge of his affairs after he passes. They are starting him on some new meds and want to put a pace maker in. In all honesty, how long does he have till total failure?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, I understand your concerns. It is difficult to predict one's life expectancy. However, functionally his heart seems very weak and even if he is treated for congestive heart failure, he may not do that well. If pacemaker is indicated and put, people have survived with it for more than 10 years. So it all depends how he sustains and how he responds.
