What Is The Maximum Dosage Of Iron Tablet For An 80 Year Old?
I have been on two iron tablets a day for quite a while and have noticed my urine has darkened significantly. 1) Should I ask the doctor for another current blood workup? 2) Is two iron pills a day an unusual amount for an 80 year old man to be taking? It was prescribed by my doctor.
For elderly patients aged 51 years and over the recommended dose of iron tablet (ferrous sulfate) is 25 to 40 mg/day (5 to 8 mg/day elemental) orally, in divided doses (1 to 3 times daily). You should consult your doctor to find out the possible causes of 'darkened urine'.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
