Hello
Thanks for your query.
I will try my best to provide you with best possible professional recommendations to your questions.
Mild
cerebral atrophy is a condition that causes some changes in the structure of the brain.
Cerebral atrophy denotes a decrease in
brain size or shrinkage of the brain. The decrease in brain size normally occurs as people grow older, but it can also be due to several conditions. But i think in your mothers case it might be due to age.
Atrophy of the brain is also associated with loss in the number of
nerve cells and their connections, and it can affect the whole brain or just some regions or portions of it.
Atrophy of the brain can be graded according to its size and appearance during autopsy. Grade 1 cerebral atrophy is associated with mild cerebral atrophy, and the changes in the brain are usually minimal and are mostly related to the normal aging process. There is also moderate and severe grades.
Many individuals who do not manifest with any nervous system conditions may have
MRI findings of mild cerebral atrophy, which is generally caused by the normal events of the aging process.
It is always good that you have consulted the neuro physician.
I advise another MRI scan of the brain after few months to compare the results and evaluate if there is progression of brain atrophy.
There is usually no treatment being given to patients with mild brain atrophy when they don't manifest with symptoms of neurologic disease. Only symptomatic treatment is available.
Yet again, I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
