Hi sir... Very dood evening...my son kartikay 1yr old..having large VSD of 12mm L toR shunt.. Echo done by u at PGI.u suggest for surgery..dr.Sachin mahajan told wait till we get the bed at ward.. we hv to cm to assure date every 3rd wk bt still we didnt got d date..nw my son s getting cold cough and fever off nd on from last1 month..we r giving antibiotics with the help of pd dr.here at our town. Till we continue treatment he ll be ok. If we stop medicatin fever starts..last wk on18/12/13 Dr.Sanjay Verma asst proff of pd deptt of PGI told chest s clear...plz suggest some madicaton of cough and fever till the operation s not done..waiting 4 ur reply sir.. ......................... Hi.... I understand your concern. Recurrent cough and cold your son is having is because of vsd. This causes increased pulmonary circulation which predisposes to recurrent lower respiratory problems like this. Unless and until the kid undergoes Surgical Management and closure of vsd recurrent cough and cold will continue. I suggest you hasten the process of getting surgery done. There is no medicine to prevent this cough and cold because it is due to the basic problem in the heart. I am sorry for not giving you alternative solution but I have to be frank in giving you the correct advice. Hope you understand.

Since, your child has large VSD of 12 mm, there are increased chances of respiratory infection. In my opinion, whenever your child has cough and fever, a course of antibiotic like amoxyclav with cough syrup and paracetamol should be given for 3 days till surgery.
