Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father in law is 72 years old. He has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. His blood pressure was 102/55 today. His doctor said that if the reading is below 120 do not take his blood pressure meds. My question is....what is a normal blood pressure for a man of his age?
Hello and thank you for your question. The blood pressure we like to see is 120/70. Lower blood pressures may be okay if you are not on medications and not having symptoms, but I agree if he is taking medications and his BP is below 120 he should not need to take the medications. There is a risk of blood pressure being to low of dizziness and falling as well as passing out. Regards
