Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 16 year old daughter in relative good health (some allergies - not bad - mostly controlled with Clariton) has a resting heart rate between 90-120. I find this concerning as well as her nurse-practitioner. My daughter is 5ft7in, weighs 170. Should she see a heart specialist or should we take time to try diet and excercise for several months first? She already drinks little caffene and we ve cut out soda recently (she was drinking quite a bit of it before). School is getting ready to start and she s going to be physically active more there. Is this really a concerning symptom?
normal heart rate is 60-100. heart rate more than 100 is called as tachycardia if tachycardia is associated with other symptoms like palpitation dizziness lightheadedness shortness of braeth then there are high chances of a heart problem and ECG is advised initially to find out the pattern of tachycardia and related cause. if tachycardia is not associated with above symptoms it may be result of following- fever, pain ,dehydration panic drug intake anemia you also need to rule out hormonal causes. hyperthyroidism by throid function test pheochromocytoma in your daughter's case i would suggest following- please get her ECG done guide her for adequate intake of fluid to avoid hydration. get rotine blood test done to rule out anemia. thankyou and take care.
