What Is The Procedure And Recovering Time After DVIU With Kenalog Injection For Urethral Stricture?
I have a urethral stricture. My urologist is recommending a DVIU with kenalog injection. What can you tell me about this procedure, what I can expect afterwards (both during recovery and long-term). I live alone, so what arrangements do I need to make for my recovery period after I return from same day surgery?
Its visual internal urethrotomy, a scope is passed through urethra after proper anaesthesia & under all aseptic precautions. Stricturus part is reached, a nick at 12 O'clock position is taken with a cold knife. A catheter is placed per urethra & kept for a varying period depending on Surgeon & also the recovery. In our institute, I usually keep it for 5-7 days. Now, healing of this nick is by fibrosis & this again causes a further stricture. It is therefore mandatory to do regular urethral dilatation after DVIU at 1 month, 3 month, 6 month & then yearly interval on birthday. No special arrangement is required during recovery period. Hope this information is useful to you. Feel free to ask any further query. Thank you.
