What Is The Prognosis After A Heart Attack?

my father was said to have only 15% of his heart left. just a month ago he had a heart attack went to the er and they used those chest shocker things to bring him back. next day he had a heart attack for 12 hours and refused to go to the er until the 13th hour. What does this mean for his life expectancy?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Unfortunately, the prognosis would be poor. Delayed treatment after a heart attack can unfortunately cause permanent damage to the heart and prevent those areas from working in the future. It is likely that his doctors would have done an echo to look at heart function and this may how they came up with the 15% figure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
