What Is The Prognosis Based On This Hematology Report?
This is my Haematology report; Hb 15.0 g/dl, Wbc 6.1 x10^9/L and Platelet 210 x10^9/L. MCV 64.8 fl (Low), MCH 20.5 pg (Low), MCHC 31.6 g/dl (Low) and RDW 16.3 (High). Can you you explain my diagnsosis base on the above results? The result were obtained from Beckman Coulter Ac diff-2 Haematology analyzer. Thank you
Hello and welcome to HCM, The red cell indices: MCV, MCH and MCHC are low but hemoglobin is normal. Normal hemoglobin suggests that there is nothing to worry. MCV, MCH and MCHC are calculated parameters and depend on red blood cell count, hemoglobin and hematocrit. Thus, red blood cell count and hematocrit are also required to make complete assessment. However, your hemoglobin is normal so you can relax. An elevated RDW suggests that there is variation in sizes of red blood cells but again there is nothing to worry about this. The white blood cell count and platelets are within range.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
