What Is The Prognosis For A Tumor On The Prostate Gland?
I have a question about Prostate cancer. My dad is 73 and 6 years ago he was treated for Non Hodgkins Lyphoma. In 2013 the urologist did a procedure on him because he was emptying his bladder. At that time he noticed a small tumor but never said anything because he said it was so small. My Dad s PSA has went from 3.6 to 6.6 in that time period. His PSA 6 months ago was 5.2. His Dr. did a biopsy last week on the tumor on his prostate and results came back as a low grade tumor and he stated to me that was what the results were 3 years ago, even though we knew nothing about that until a week ago. So my question is should we just sit and wait and check PSA every 6 months as recommended by his current urologists, or where should we go from here?
It is a low grade tumor and chances of it growing rapidly are small. However, still i will advise to take hormonal therapy or radiotherapy so that tumor can be shrunk further and that will give your father at least 10 years of good survival.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
