What Is The Prognosis For Lung Cancer With Brain Metastasis?
Hi. My fiance's sister (now 24) was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago and has been in 'relatievly good health' until recently. Last summer the cancer spread to her brain but a few months ago a combination of new chemo and radiation reduced the cancer in the brain by 10% and stopped the growth in her lungs. two weeks ago she was taken to the hospital for cists in her stomach which were removed through an operation. Last night she was re-admitted due to coughing up black stuff and another operation was planned. I suppose my question is what is the current prognosis for her (I can not speak to the Dr's as they speak a different language and my fiance does not understand the jargon and translates what he can). I have read numerous articles and know that only around 7% of those diagnosed survive 5 years so we are blessed but I guess I would like a greater understanding of how this develops and what is currently going on...

History of lung cancer with brain metastasis itself suggesting that stage 4 disease with very poor prognosis,recurrence rate is also very high in this kind of patients, in my view she already suffered a lot with chemo and radiotherapy treatments, again she developed recurrence in lungs may be the doctors are suggesting for vats operation. But at this stage my opinion is only symptomatic treatment and try to be stay with her along with family and friends make her happy, going for surgeries again being hospitalized is not at all a good idea.
