What Is The Prognosis For Subdural Hematoma In An Elderly Person?
My husband is 85 years old and suffered a sub dural hematoma, as a result of a fall on the ice, but no symptoms showed up for several weeks following the fall. Then he shuffled when he walked and went in and had a c-scan which showed the bleeding and had surgery. He was a very active 85 year old and walker, and has resumed his walking, but says he just doesn t feel right. He will have another scan in a few days. It has been almost six weeks since his surgery. What might we expect as far as recovery is concerned?
Recovery may take a prolonged period of time because of the blood would have had a mass effect. This means it would have been exerting pressure some areas of the brain.
It is possible that he may have a full recovery but this can take weeks to months to occur.
I hope this helps
