Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife s brother has ards and is currently on mechanical ventalation. The physician states he has severe lung disease and they have not been successful in weaning him off ventalation. It s sounding grim. What is the prognosis for someone in this condition as I feel I need to prepare my wife.
In general, the prognosis of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is not very good with high mortality. Also, if his lung is damaged severely and have low blood pressure, or other organ damage as well, then chances of recovery become less.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Sagar Makode
