What Is The Prognosis Of A Person Who Has Lupus In Brain?
I have a friend who just told me her lupus is now in her brain and her Dr. Gave her less than a year. What are end stages of lupus? What can she and her kids expect? She sleeps a lot and doesn t recall things all the time (Dr said I was lupus dementia)... What can you tell me about end stage lupus?
I am sorry for the health problems your friend is experiencing. Unfortunately, when lupus affects the brain, lupus dementia will be set as in case of your friend. This explains why she can't recall things all the time. She needs patience from your part to handle this situation. Lupus is an auto-immune disease where the body immune system is attacking the normal body cells / tissues.
End-stage lupus is often associated with potential fatal infections due to treatment the patient is taking. With regards to life-expectancy, the more the organs are involved, the more severe the symptoms are, the shorter the life expectancy. You need to be strong and prepared for any unusual symptom or behavior of your friend.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Lupus is a multi-system disorder so prognosis depends on a combined picture, specially of lungs and kidneys are stable, only brain lupus may not be very aggressive or fatal, however on presence of other derangements, the life expectancy may decrease drastically.
Moreover treatment response carries between individuals, as some get good response with immuno-suppressive therapy but some have recurrence of flares and may land up in fatal complications earlier than others.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
