Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my mum has small cell carcinoma of the bladder which is rare and aggressive. She had 6 hours of chemo last week and has another 4 to go. Then radiotherapy the a full bladder removal. What is the general prognosis for this type of cancer and is there a possibility she can be cured if it hasn’t spread anywhere else?
Usually, now there are many medications which have come to the use which are curing cancer fully. Stage 2 or 3 cancers are still curable. If it has spread to other body parts then treating it is the only palliative.
Since your doctors want to remove, then I believe she has stage 2 or 3 cancer whose prognosis is better comparatively. But small cell carcinoma is a little difficult entity also.
So, without the reports of all the investigation and general examine once I can’t guide you the prognosis so easily. But believe me, if you take up risks you will definitely get out of all this. Kindly give confidence to your mom also for the positive outcome.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
