What Is The Prognosis Of Lung Cancer?

My brother is 75 years old and has cancer cells in his lungs and in his bones. The doctors had a biopsy performed and determined that the source of the cancer was a neural endocrine tumor(maybe I got that right). They said thar his life expectancy (3 to 6 months) would be the same whether or not the cancer was treated. Does that sound right?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

He may be suffering from carcinoid tumor of the lung. Survival rate depends upon the stage and age of the patient. Is he on chemotherapy?? etc. Five year survival rate in stage 1 is 94% where as in stage 4 it is 50%.I think I answered to your question if you have more questions feel free to ask.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
