What Is The Prognosis Of Squamous Cell Cancer?

Dr. Based on biopsy found left lymph gland had squamous cell cancer. Did PET scan and didn t highlight any internal organs, which was good. Right lymph gland is questionable so he will biopsy next week?? Tongue has a slight shadow so Dr. has some concern. I have surgery March 13th. I m 55 in good 5 8 188 pounds, good shape no tobacco and very little alcohol. Dr. mentioned radiation and chemo. It hurt to swallow on left side so I had been taking aspirin last 3-4 months. I showed my ENT and he did MRI in 2015 and thus we watched it. I insisted on biopsy last week thus got news on Monday. What is my prognosis??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Squamous cell carcinoma generally has a high survival rate. It has a good prognosis. Even though your lymph node was touched it can be cured with surgery and radiotherapy and may have a good prognosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka,
