What Is The Purpose Of Dicyclomine?

I have had watery diarehhea for about three weeks. The first week, I thought it would quit. The second week I made an apt with my family doctor (now a phy ass t) for Friday before Memorial weekend. She cancelled my apt and told me to go to a Gastroenterologist. I called my regular Gastro Dr, he was out, his nurse contacted an associate. They had me pick up a kit for a bacterial test which I did on Thursday. No results came to me until Tuesday. Today they want to put me on Dicyclomine. The pharmacy tells me this is a stomach medicine. I have not vomited or had nausea in the three weeks. What is this medicine really for?

It works by blocking a chemical in the smooth muscle of the stomach and intestines causing them to relax, which reduces cramping. Discontinue this drug if efficacy is not achieved within 2 weeks.
