What Is The Purpose Of Primolut Post Ovarian Cyst Removal?
Hi, I have had a series of cysts over the last few months and have been on the implanon after the birth of my son 2 and a half years go.My doctor thinks the cysts could be due to the hormones in the implanon so she removed it and has given me primolut nor 10mg one to be taken each day for 20 days with a 5 day break as both a means to remove the current 4cm cyst and act as a contraceptive. I have researched primolut nor online and found it isn t widely used as a contraceptive and worry about its effectiveness, I live in Tunisia and my doctor is french so we have to speak in Arabic, suffice to say things get lost in translation and just wanted some clarification Many thanks Ellie

Your doctor is right in a way, as there are observations, which relate the use of Implanon implant with the finding of some ovarian cysts. Though the efficacy in removing ovarian cyst has not been completely established, still there are some evidence, which show that some of the simple follicular cyst may be decreased in size or may completely subside, particularly the cysts of size of 4cm or less.
Efficacy as contraceptive property of both Implanon implant and use of Primolut pill, if used in a proper way, is almost same i.e., about 99%. No contraceptive method is 100% effective. However, if some of the pills of Primolut are skipped, the efficacy me be reduced to about 90%.
