Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Purpose Or Significance Of A Chest X-ray?
I want to know about bilateral heart failure. . especially about what are the lab result for a heart failure patient. Why do they do chest X-ray? what is the BNP B-type Natriuretic Peptide ( 650pg/ml) level and why do they do this test? What does it mean that ejection factor is 48%?
hi Bilateral heart failure meanns botth ventricles are not having sufficient output of blood circulation.BNp levels above 600 means modrate to severe failing heart .X ray chest is done to see whether there is congestion in lungs due to congestive heart failure. There is deficient oxygenation of blood in heart failure and there can be difficulty in breathing also as a result.Ejection fraction is the pumping capacity of left ventricle and pumping of blood to all over body. Normally it is 55% to 75% and any levels below it is poor pumping capacity of heart. You may be assessed for all these by tests as already advised.Doesnt matter, all this is now manageable with medicines like dieuretics, diet, and beta blockers, ace inhibitor drugs etc. consult a cardiologist
