What Is The Reason For Continual Upper Body Fluid Retention With Constant Chest Wall Pain With History Of Having Open Heart Surgery?
I m a 49 year old female and had open heart surgery in Sept.I have 2 major ongoing problems. I was looking for any feedback you can offer. I have continual upper body (stomach, chest and back) fluid retention. It has caused a plural effusion in Nov. I live on Bumax and when I come off I get an increased weight gain and fluid build up. Renal specialist and cardiac surgeon baffled. I also have constant chest wall pain. Can this be due to a hypertrophic scar? Thank you I am desperate for answers ..I am unsure of what specialist to seek out next. The open heart surgery was to remove a papillary fibroelastoma.

Hi I read your query very carefully. The uper body fluid retention and chest pain may be due to post intervention cardiac failure and scar hypertrophy. So I recommend to consult your surgeons to control the wound and to consult your cardiologists for further treatment. If I was your treating doctor I would add you diuretics. Hope I answered to your query. Dr. Benard
