Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have been feeling a sharp pain in the lower right side of my back a couple of times over the last few weeks. It comes from nowhere and stays for a few seconds but is quite intense. It is about 2 inches back from my hip and around2/3 inches up. Do you know what it could be?
Hi, This pain could indicate you have a kidney stone. The pain from this cause can be severe and intermittent as you describe. I suggest you see your doctor to discuss investigations. In the meantime, try paracetamol for pain relief. Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as these can affect kidney function. If the pain is particularly severe, you may need codeine-based pain relief. Regrds, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB. FRCA.
