What Is The Reason For White Bumps In The Center Of My Tongue?

I had a flu virus/cold virus for a week and I could not breathe out of my nose and had to breathe out of my mouth. I now have white bumps in the center of my tongue. The flu/cold is subsiding, but the bumps are bothersome. Also since I have been irritating them by scratching some of them off, the area is sore. Should I just gargle with salt water a few times a day?

Hi and thanks for the query,
The white bumps in the center of your tongue are taste buds.
Do not worry, they are normal.
Regards,
