What Is The Remedy For Acne While Using Minocycling?
my daughter is using minocycling for Acne for 2 wks but it seems to irritate her skin and with a special wash she is getting dry skin itchy. She is 20 yrs old, What will u recommend? Skin specialist asked her to take 2 pills daily for 2 months ..Should she keep taking it or change meds??! Thanks
Minocycline is a very good antiacne medication. Dose varies from 50mg once daily to 100mg twice daily. I would advice that she continue with it for 4-6 weeks.
Instead of using a face wash which dries up and irritates the skin it is advisable to use a gentle cleansing lotion twice daily e.g cetaphil cleansing lotion.
Harsh cleansing can irritate the skin of acne patients, which may have been made even more sensitive by using topical antiacne medications.
Along with oral minocycline, you could ask her to use a topical clindamycin gel or benzoyl peroxide gel on the active acne lesions.
