Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 85 yr old mother was diagnosed with dehydration this week. She has been light headed. She lives with me her daughter so I m able to push her to drink fluids and eat. Taking her blood pressure on 1/18/14 it was 113/64, on 1/9/14 it was 116/64 and just now it reads 98/49! Wondering if this should be an ER visit?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. For now, drink plenty of water to maintain the hydration levels or take Electral or Gatorade solution. Dextrose is a form of glucose (sugar). Dextrose in water is injected into a vein through an IV to replace lost fluids and provide carbohydrates to the body. Dextrose is used to treat low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), insulin shock, or dehydration (fluid loss). I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
