What Is The Remedy For Increased Swelling And Pain In Right Knee After Synvisc Injection?
i have increased swelling and pain in my right knee since my 3rd synvisc injection. What is the remedy? I am scared I this may have damaged my knee irreparably - I am an active, working full time woman of 66 y.o., playing tennis 4 times per week. Will this swelling and pain go away?
Thanks for your question. The first thing I would want to rule out is an infection in your knee joint. If your knee is warm, red and swollen and it is painful to move then you should seek medical attention to ensure you do not have a septic arthritis i.e. a knee infection secondary to the injection.
If you knee is just a little painful and swollen but you can still move it then this is not uncommon following a joint injection as the injection itself can cause some inflammation and bleeding in the joint that makes your symptoms temporarily worse.
There is no known benefit to synvics over a steroid shot and so if I were you I would save your pennies and go for the cheaper option.
Best wishes
