What Is The Remedy For Phrenic Nerve?

Hi, I recently donated a kidney but now my phrenic nerve is bothering me...irritated maybe? Does this go away with time or is there something I can do to help it! It has been getting better but the pain to my left shoulder and to my chest still come about.

Pediatric Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, the phrenic nerve innervates the diaphragm and its irritation causes a referred pain to the shoulder of the same side of involvement of the phrenic nerve.
Usually, there is some surgery related to organ close to the diaphragm, there may develop a partial or just a functional injury to these nerves which causes pain to the side involved.
So, in your case, most probably the left kidney was used for donation.
This pain will gradually subside with nerve healing and may take 2-3 weeks but in some individuals may take slightly longer time.
So, for the pain you can take simple pain killers like paracetamol or acetaminophen or ibuprofen. If the pains still severe and worsens please take gabapentin for the same.
Hope, the pain will be subsiding soon and you will be getting better soon too.
