I have recently been diagnosed with a type of sleep aepnoea after three times falling into a coma after a nights sleep [where I did not wake up in the morning]. They informed me that my blood had become so acidic that I almost did not make it the last time. I now have a machine at night. [no oxygen req.] Is that the same as Lactic Acidosis ? I take Pregabalin for peripheral neuropathy, Physeptone for severe pain and Metformin for mild type two diabetes. [newly diagnosed. Yhank you. Leonie Larsen. Australia
Hello Leonie, I'm glad to help with your questions if I can. First, the answer to your first question about acidosis: Yes this is the same as lactic acidosis. Anytime the body is starved for oxygen, the response is to switch metabolism and making lactic acid. However this is done on a larger level when your whole body is hypoxic.
The treatment for sleep apnea usually depends on the cause. People can have multiple reasons for sleep apnea, but most have to do with their oral/nasal anatomy and body habitus. Sleep apnea works very well for people who can tolerate it and wear it nightly. Other treatments include mouth guards, weight loss, shoulder and back rolls to aid with positioning and surgery.
I hope this helps answer your question.
