Hi Dr Grief; I am currently suffering from hair dye allergy and it is now in the 4-5th week. No weeping but just a very bad rash on my feet, back, groin and arms. I am male, my hair is long, (to the middle of my back) and dyed it with a coloring that I got from a reputable beauty supply shop; did not do a patch test. Dyed it for a movie that we are doing. Allegra has worked well but I decided today to bear it and hopefully my body's immune system would kick in. It did not and rebounded with a furor. I am a Registered Nurse of 20 years and understand the working process of the body. Is there a wash that I can use to remove this dye. I wear a hairpiece as well and was dying my own hair to match it. I have shaved my head in the past and am thinking about doing it as soon as I finish the movie. Allegra doses had to be boosted and after a week I was taking 180 mg bid and tid; am thinking of giving Claritin a try until this rash subsides. Any advice will help at this point. Many have warned me against steroids and I have had a reaction to them in the past when younger. I am 58 currently and take lisinopril/hctz for hypertension,.
