What Is The Right Treatment For Severe Cough And Sputum?

I am coughing up large amount of sputum. My diagnosis is COPD. However I have never experienced this before. It's not coulored. I am going through a treatment with penecillin. Would it be better to switch to Azitromicin. My own theory is that it's viral so propable neither would help?

Cough with sputum could be pneumonia, tuberculosis, pulmonary edema, depending on what your other symptoms are. You have not specified whether you also have fever, weight loss; whether you also have breathlessness, leg edema. In any case, you should visit a chest physician who will examine you, run some tests (which should include a sputum culture-sensitivity) and accordingly prescribe the appropriate antibiotic (if a bacterium is identified).
