What Is The Risk Involved In Having Open Heart Surgery At The Age Of 73?
HI MY FATHER INLAW 73 NEED TO HAVE OPEN HART SURGERY HE HAS A BLOCKED AUTERY HE HAS HAD TWO STENTS PUT IN TEN YRS AGO AND EIGHT YRS AGO FOR OTHER BLOCKAGE HE HAS ALSO HAD LUNG CANCER (REMOVAL OF HALF OF HIS LEFT LUNG) SOOOO WHAT IS THE RISK FACTOR ??? THANKS
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. With his one lung, if he is able to manage the anesthesia, then there is no specific complications. 2. As, it is a open heart surgery, his heart will be well supported. In a good setup, there should not be risk factors. 3. Better to get the surgery done as the block can progress to overt myocardial infarction. Post surgery, regular monitoring along with balanced diet and mild exercise is essential to further avoid blockage of arteries in future. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
