What Is The Side Effect Of Taking Clindamycin For Skin Rash?

I was taking Clindamycin for a couple of days when I started getting a serious rash on my genital area and my upper inside thighs.....stopped taking the meds and doc put me on Z-Pack.....I ve been also having a hard time with eating or swallowing, well I can do those, but it feels like everything is stuck in my throat, or it goes down to my chest area and stays.....it is like eating to big a bite of something and it just sits in the throat. Is this another allergic type reaction from the clindamycin?

Hello and thanks for writing to HCM.
I read your query and understand your concern.

Following details could have helped more:
your age,sex and height ,weight??
for what were you started on clindamycin - only the rash and why did you switch over?
any other medical history of diabetes or hypertension etc/drug history/allergies in the past?
any weight loss recently?

coming to query, clindamycin is usually effective in such skin rashes but as you mentioned like many drugs,it tends to cause allergies and yes something sore throat and mild inflammation in throat amongst other symptoms

Z-pack is also azithromycin which is an effective antibiotic, which can be continued if you dont have any trouble

Please understand, stress and anxiety can also trigger a feeling of discomfort/something stuck in your throat. So first of,i would suggest you to relax.

I would suggest the following to you,
-continue azithromycin(z-pack as prescribed)
-take a tablet containing combination of pantoprazole and domperidone twice daily before food for five days (if its due to GERD or the reflux involving stomach and eosophagus)and then continue only based on further review and medical opinion
-avoid stress,if necessary take tablet alprazolam at night for 5 days.

-chances are sore throat/pharyngitis could also cause discomfort of throat,so take saline gargle thrice daily for three days and see if it works.

i would suggest you also also do a thyroid function test

watch out for signs like persistent fever, abdominal pain, weight loss etc,or increase in the throat discomfort,if then consult your doctor for further investigations and management as soon as possible.

Hope this clarifies and helps and that you get relieved soon.
followup if any doubts.
Good day
