My wife is pregnant ( her age 29 and now 4 months after pregnant ) and doctor said to do the T.S.H test and other 6 blood tests. No problem seems with other 6 blood test but the T.S H test results was 0.538 miu/ml and the reference rage shows 0.4 - 4.0 on that report. The next test called Free Thyroxine and got the results 0.73 ng/dl and the reference rage shows as 0.89 - 1.76 ng/dl. Please answer these qustions 1. Why this test do ? 2. How to read this test ? 3. Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com....

See these tests are done to check the thyroid levels...whether the patient is hypothyroid or hyperthyroid...because they can affect the health of the patient as well as the outcome of pregnancy...miscarriages, preeclampsia, bleeding etc can occur...
As far as the reports are concerned, the TSH is almost normal where as the fT4 is slightly lower...it can't be stamped as hypothyroidism, probably the levels will be repeated after some days...
As of now, there is not much risk to the mother or baby, just be under regular followup...

Hope this was useful...
