What Is The Suggested Treatment For Severe Dysentery Other Than Antibiotics?
Hello,
My son 5 months and 4 days old is suffering from loose motions from last 8 days. He is straining (a lot) everytime he passes motion and is passing 5-7 times a day. His stool are greenish and mucousy. I have been giving him nutrolin b Syrup 2.5 ml twice a day from last 6 days with no improvement. Stool test indicate - green color, liquid in form, mucus present, frank blood absent, RBC absent, pus cells present in mucus tags, (everything else - macrophages cell, amoebae, flagellates, ova, cysts absent) but occult blood present. My son is exclusively breast fed and had started on Calcimax and MIM - z doses, 20 day back which I have stopped since the dysentery.
My pead recommended me to stop diary products and give him zifi 50 3
ML twice a day for 5 days. I am not too keen on giving antibiotic to my baby. Pls advise.

Hai..first of all I would like to congratulate you on your insight about antibiotic usage. I have certain questions for you...
1. Even though he's having diarrhea.. How is His activity...Urine output etc.
2. How is his oral intake.
I will be hsppy if you can get back with amswers. I think you shouldn't worry about occult blood unless its frank blood in stools. Red flag signs include green or bilious vomiting, frank blood in motion, high fever, poor oral intake, low urine output & lethargy. You can probably waitwith antibiotics & start using zinc ssupplements. Happy to help anytime. If you are happy with my reply, kindly rate it.
