What Is The Treatment After Bitten By A Horse Fly?

I was bitten by a horse fly on my right knee yesterday afternoon and it obviously hurt when it happened. I could see two small punctures where I had been bitten and it was bleeding. When I woke up this morning, it hurt to the touch and there was pain while walking. It is slightly swollen and is red around the bite area. Should I see a doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Horseflies ie.Tabanus species is a stout measuring flies 10-25 mm in length and produces large & painful bleeding punctures.
Treatment of fly bites is symptom-based .
Topical application of anti pruritic agents like clobetasone .
Glucocorticoids as prednisolone tablets.
Antiseptic lotions ( savlon or dettol wash May relieve the pain & itching.
If allergic reactions requires antihistamine as fexofenadine ( 120-180 mg once or twice in day).
If you feel infection take some aceclofenac 200 mg (s r) and antibiotics .
Since all these drugs are prescription medicine so consult a primary care physician .
Good luck.
