About 2 years ago I was diagnosed with GERD and Barrett s Esophagus. i also had an ulcer in my esophagus. At the time I was dipping tobacco and drinking a glass of red wine on a daily basis. My GI told me that I needed to make an extreme lifestyle change which include quitting dipping tobacco and drinking wine, discontinuing coffee, special diet, and 20 mg omeprazole and carafate which I did. 1 year later, I had another scope of my esophagus done and everything was clear. However, I still have pain, burning, and swelling in my xiphoid process area anytime I drink a glass of oj, wine, or have the slightest reflux. I have been to the mayo clinic and USF had additional esophageal scopes and tests done and the GI Dr s are puzzled. They think it may be 2 separate issues, but they seem to always work in conjuction with each other. What do you think. Wade
