What Is The Treatment For UTI?

Hello, I have a UTI. I have had many in my lifetime. I am allergic to Cipro, Sulfa, Penicillin, Keflex and Macrodantin. I get a terrible reaction if I take these antibiotics. Would you know any other drug to take for my problem? I have the M.T.H.F.R gene which makes taking anything hard for me, but I do need an answer. I cannot take generic drugs only brand. I would so appreciate your help. Thank you, Nancy Lamb

Hi Nancy,

I can understand your concern. As you are allergic to all the ggroups of antibiotics that are commonly used to treat UTI, you can take Nitrofurantoin group of antibiotics which a different group of antibiotic and not associated with the groups you are allergic to.

The brand name is Nifutin 100 mg which you have to take twice a day for 5 days. Do not take antacid containing Magnesium along with it. Drink lots of fluids and take rest.
