Hii, my mom is a 43 year old women she has this problem of fluid coming from her nose and the fluid contains piece of the last meal she has sometimes For e.g. if she drinks coffe and lie down immediately or even after half an hour she gets the fluid in the colour of the coffe And when she talks while eating the food gets stuck and she coughs severely And after the consultation of doctors v found tat it’s achalasia cardia They performed barium swallow fluroscopy to find the problem So I would like to know what is the treatment for this as it is been told it’s very rare
She has symptoms of achalasia cardia, difficulty in swallowing food & may complicate to absence of peristalsis. Achalasia cardia causes dysphagia of both solid & liquid food, the patients usually experience regurgitation of food & chest discomfort.
The treatment is by medication or surgery. The medications like Isosorbide dinitrate, calcium channel blockers, verapamil help in the relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter.
Surgery usually includes dilatation of the lower esophageal sphincter, esophagomyotomy and injection of Botox to the sphincter. After surgery, food from the esophagus moves easily to the stomach.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
