What Is The Treatment For Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency With COPD? Taking Inhalers. Liver Results Awaited
I have alpha 1 antitripson deficiency and my COPD is stage 3 with 50 usage of my lungs. I was just diagnosed. My doctor said to manage this with just inhalers. I have yet to get my liver results. I am 53 years of age. I live in a very polluted city. What treatments are available to me?
Hi, Thanks for your query. Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency causes COPD to occur at relatively early age. Treatment is similar as that of normal COPD consisting of inhaled bronchodilators, oxygen if in respiratory failure, annual influenzavaccine, avoidance of pollution. If the level of alpha1 antitrypsisn is below 11, then subcutaneous supplementation of this protein will be required. But it is very costly treatment...
Best wishes
