i have had what i assumed was an ear infection since the beginning of feb. i ve been on a large # of medications and and been told many things. the last two weeks have been miserable. the pain that started in my ear spread to my neck and it hurts behind my eye. i finally gave up and went to a specialist.she told me that i have torn muscles in my jaw. does this sound right? and if so,why does my ear hurt so badly?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Sternocleidomastoid muscle tear may cause pain in the ear. It may be a middle ear infection. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

Avoid cool drinks and ice creams. Use water vapour inhalation thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please get it done tympanogram and oral cavity examination. Then your ENT specialist treat you accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
