What Is The Treatment For Ascitis With Swollen Stomach?
Hi, my mom has been suffering for many years. she has seen several doctors/emergency room mostly and have not been able to detect her condition. She has swollen stomach they said she has ascitis condition. paracentesis has been done almost every 1 month. can you help determine what the problem is?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your Mother having ascites and needs paracentesis every month. Since she has been seen by many Doctors, it is obvious that she is properly investigated to know the cause and may be given the specific treatment. I would advise her the following: - Ascitic fluid needs to be given for analysis to find the cause like tuberculosis, cancer and so on. - Blood tests to see for whether there is anemia, hypoproteinemia, liver and thyroid functions and other tests as per the clinical evaluation. - Cardiac check up to see whether there is primary or secondary effects. - Ultrasonography and CT scan for assessing the intra-abdominal conditions.
All these tests will find the cause and give plan for further proper management.
