Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.
Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query
There are two basic causes which may cause imbalance-
1. Cerebellar disorders. These occur in conditions like
stroke or an infection that involves the
cerebellum ( a part of the brain involved with the balance). The problem in this part of the brain causes the person to loose balance and he/she feels as if they are moving towards one side only.
The best way to diagnose this is by
MRI of the brain.
2. Ear complaints- The lesions of ear can also cause problem in the balance. The internal ear (innermost part of the ear) is involved in balance also. So I would suggest that you meet an ENT person also. There may be other symptoms of ear associated like
tinnitus,
ear discharge or pain etc.
These are of course not the only causes. They are just the causes that need urgent attention. There are many other causes for which I need a more detailed history to suggest them.
As for the doctor in Houston, I would suggest you meet your physician immediately so as to make sure no urgent treatment is needed. He can direct you to a specialist as required
I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further. Best of luck.
