What Is The Treatment For Headache?

I had a bad front head injury last Christmas but didn't go to the hospital last week I hit my head in the same place and a lump had formed under the skin. I was sick a day after and since then I have had a constant headache that painkillers don't cure and I'm constantly tired.

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. You should not ignore persistent headache which is not responding to painkillers. Most of the head injury cases have headache for few days which settles on its own. As per your history, your first injury was also bad and another episode had occurred on same site. It might be because of scalp hematoma or skull bone fracture. Less likely, bleed in brain might have happened.

As you are conscious and able to do some routine activities, there is less likely chance that anything damaging can happen to you. But you and your family must observe few alarming symptoms like vomiting, decreased consciousness or episode of loss of consciousness, fits, memory impairment, onset of new focal deficit, bleed through nose/ear/throat. In case of above symptoms, do not delay and consult ER as soon as possible. Before reaching ER, you should avoid any sleeping pills or pain killers with sedation effects, avoid lying supine, preferably keep your head on higher level than heart. In case of vomiting, turn head on either side.

At ER, you will be fully evaluated to rule out any brain damage and might be advised CT scan of head to find out fracture, clot in brain. Further plan of management will be decided after clinical examination and CT scan report.

Thanks. Hope it will help you. Thanks.
